Island of Gozo

Annual Events

If you are a culture-vulture then Gozo is a must for you. Our island is full of talented artists, musicians and dancers who take part in the many events included in our yearly Events Calendar. Gozo offers a diverse mix of free, family-friendly entertainment for visitors to enjoy.

Gozo hosts a month-long Opera Festival.
During Carnival week in February 25,000 visitors arrive looking to dance and party alongside carnival dancers, while grotesque style floats parade through the streets in a huge celebration of excess, before we give them all up for Lent.

Nadur’s Spontaneous Night-Time Carnival is edgier and more risqué. Partygoers, who delight in their masked disguises, poke fun at well known figures, making satirical comments with lewd and bawdy performances.
During the height of summer is when you can experience our ‘Feast of the Saints’ celebrations, where our faith, culture and traditions merge; and our small villages burst into life. Enjoy beautifully decorated churches with lights, elaborate street décor and colourful community events. Festa celebrations are a proud, loud tribal affair, uniting locals.

Each week (from the end of May until mid-September), a different village hosts a programme of events, dedicated to their Patron Saint; religious services, street processions, musical parades all take place, along with a synchronised firework finale.

Join a local feast, or as we call them, ‘festi’, between May and September to experience Gozo the authentic way!

If you visit Gozo during religious holidays, like Easter or Christmas-time, you’ll discover the processions and age-old customs that underpin our religious calendar. Easter is a time for lamenting our sins, there are solemn parades and processions, with villages hosting live Passion productions too.

Christmas is more joyous, characterized by church services, carols and cribs. Visitors will also find festive craft markets and a huge, award-winning Eco Christmas tree.

Gozo’s live Christmas Parade is a choreographed pageant, and a must see, with costumed dancers spreading seasonal joy, followed by Santa on his sleigh!

Gozo’s live Nativity Village, ‘Bethlehem in Ghajnsielem’ is a ‘faith-based’ attraction letting visitors step back 2,000 years to ancient ‘Bethlehem’. Watch Mary and Joseph caring for baby Jesus, while outside, villagers go about their daily lives, tending to animals, practicing ancient trades which heightens this immersive experience for thousands of visitors.
