Feasts and Fireworks in Gozo: Summer Nights You’ll Never Forget

There’s Nothing Like Summer in Gozo

If you’re planning to visit Gozo this summer, here’s your heads-up: you’re about to land in the middle of our favourite time of the year. The air is warm, the streets are buzzing, and just about every village is gearing up for its annual feast, a local celebration featuring music, food, fireworks, and plenty of tradition.

And we’re not talking one or two events, Gozo turns into a rolling festival of colour, joy, and big bangs in the sky right the way through to September. So whether you’re staying for a weekend or a whole month, you’re bound to land in the middle of one of the village feasts.

What Are Festas, Anyway?

Every village in Gozo has a patron saint, and once a year, each village goes all out to celebrate them. Locals spend months getting ready, cleaning the streets, building huge decorations, prepping band marches, and of course, planning massive firework shows.

You’ll hear live brass bands echoing through the valleys, see churches covered in lights, and smell the sweet scent of local snacks wafting through the air. By night, it’s a full-on party. By day, there’s a mix of religious events, processions, and good old-fashioned Gozitan hospitality.

Some Summer Feasts to Catch

St George’s Feast – Victoria

Sunday 20 July 2025

Right in the heart of Gozo’s capital, this one is a must. Victoria turns into a hub of energy all week long. St George’s Basilica is decked out in flags, lights, and music. The Sunday procession is moving, but it’s the fireworks on Saturday night that steal the show.

St Margaret’s Feast – Sannat

Sunday 27 July 2025

This one’s a bit more laid-back but no less festive. Sannat feels like one big street party, with great food stalls and a real sense of community, plus, the views from the village are something else! Catch the sunset before the fireworks kick off.

St Joseph’s Feast – Qala

Sunday 3 August 2025

Qala goes big every year. The village fills up with music, laughter, and serious festa spirit. It’s one of those places where you’ll find yourself clapping along to the band and dancing in the street before you even know what’s going on.

Santa Marija – Feast of the Assumption – Victoria

Thursday 15 August 2025 – Public Holiday

This is Gozo’s biggest and most beloved festa. Drawing a large international crowd to the streets of Victoria.  Santa Marija brings the entire island together for a proper show of faith, tradition, and celebration.

The church is dazzling, the band marches are loud and proud, and the fireworks? Absolutely massive. Expect the skies to light up over Gozo for hours.

Festa Fireworks

Let’s talk fireworks. In Gozo, these aren’t your average displays. Locals spend months organising them.  You’ll see everything from:

  • Daytime petards that echo across the island.
  • Ground wheels and fire columns lighting up the piazzas.
  • And of course, massive aerial shows timed perfectly with music
